Reading about Port Bolivar and how the name relates to The Liberator Simon Bolivar; He (Bolivar) liberated the following South American Countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Panama(this last one use to be part of Colombia). His great Dream was the consolidation of the southern Cone Countries in one Nation "The Gran Colombia".

(From another reader) "Simon Bolivar died in Santa Marta, Colombia, on his way to Venezuela, on the sugar plantation called San Pedro Alejandrino.....which was the country home of my forefather, Don Joaquin de Mier. There is, today, a museum that honors him and is visited by tourists from all over the world.

Simon Bolivar wrote his famous prophetic "Letter of Jamaica" while in exile, in Kingston, in 1815.

Was helped during the Independence war by British, Irish Scots and Welsh Brigades all the way to Peru, and his Educan was General Daniel Florence O'Leary, an Irishman, who admired the Liberator so much that his first son was called Simon Bolivar O'Leary.

Actually the only two Countries that can parade Troops in Venezuela with fixed bayonets are Ireland and the UK by concession from the Liberator.

There are at Least 5 Simon Bolivars in the US, two of them were Generals that both (Father and Son ) graduated from USMA West Point.

Bolivar lost several battles for which he has been criticized by many Historians, but he wan the War against the Spaniards.

To me the Genius of "Bolivar" has no parallel in this world.

The University of Texas published back in the 80's a Book called "Bolivar and the War of Independence", I recommend it to you. Sincerely Gonzalo Chacin-Amado Miami Florida
