Prior
to Hurricane IKE, Earl "Bop"
Osten got up each morning and, from the deck of his beachfront
home,
snapped a picture of the gulf. He added
a few comments
and posted the
picture on his crystalbeach.com
website. Hundreds of visitors would go
to the
site each day to catch a glimpse of the beach.
Bop gave people the opportunity to take a daily look at the sand and
surf...from their desks, kitchen tables, even military quarters...and
imagine
themselves there for a moment or two. Some would keep an eye on the
weather for an upcoming vacation, others would fantasize about one day
seeing it in person. Many would drop him a note in appreciation.
Our
beloved Bop
passed away February 7, 2009. He lived a wonderful life, but old age
finally caught up with him. He made many friends and was loved
by all. We will miss him very
much.

home of 35 years. |
The
"Seahoose" was
the center of activity for several
generations of
Osten family and friends. On September 13, 2008, Hurricane IKE
devastated
Bolivar Peninsula and
the
Seahoose was completely
washed away.
The essence of the Seahoose is captured in this
story, written by Liz Osten
Sanders, the eldest daughter of
Mama and Bop.

most things, it wasn’t necessarily the physical structure
that makes a place
special but it
was the people who lived there." (MR McDermott, Dallas TX)
