![]() Where to shell on Bolivar ? To combine it with a relaxing stroll, anywhere on the beach is a likely spot. The sparkling water and refreshing breeze is ever present. For the little ones, a memento from the beach is a treasure. Take some colorful string, and look for the "ring shells", ( shells eroded by the sea which fit like a ring on a finger). String the shells to make a souvenir. There are a few tricks to finding a sand dollar. They come from the off shore sand bars and "ride" in on the waves due to their light weight and buoyancy. If they are with a large bank of shells, they will be resting on top. Or, the sand dollars will be alone on the wet sand. Sometimes only the center star is visible, so dig it out carefully. The beautiful fragile purple janthina rides in on the man-o-war in the early spring, and rests on the mounds of seaweed.The tiny animals inside the shell blow air bubbles and hide in the beach debris. The brilliant purple color helps to spot them. The "flats", the west end of the beach on the Peninsula, are a good place to find elegant sleek olives.
